John chose our walk today from one of our ancient walking books, starting at Skirmett. We parked in The Frog car park and would have lunch at the end of our walk. About 3.5 - 4 miles.
Andy, Margaret, Peter, Dorothy, John and myself out today.
Almost next door to The Frog I took my first photo of the day of this very pretty cottage on the main Hambleden Valley Road.
And the one next door, just as pretty.
We shortly turned left into a gravel track and followed a pathway, between two fences and a fairly steep uphill. This building on our right as we started the ascent.
To our right the Windmill at Turville, where we would later pass in much closer proximity.
And to our left the views back down Hambleden Valley, still with evidence of an early morning mist.
Looking back from the first part of the climb, we see the woodland on the opposite hill, which we would later walk through above Fingest.
The walk now turns and climbs further in to the Woodland
The group stop to admire the views towards Turville.
Some lovely light through the Beech Woods.
We continue forward, and eventually drop down a right hand fork and emerge at the Woodlands where I recently shot my film "Hide & Seek".
Crossing straight over the road, (Dolesden Lane) and through a gate....
Some very pretty wild flowers and the view to Turville Windmill once more.
After crossing the field, we turn along the RHS and emerge next to these sheep, who seemed a bit surprised to see us!
The path now goes through Turville Village, passed "Goodnight Mr Tom's" House, the starts to climb up the pathway to the Wildmill. Thankfully, we detour to the right just through this gate avoiding the direct climb to the top.
Our path is a more gradual climb, and just before we disappear into the cover of the woodland, this view looks back to Turville Village with wild Oregano in full flower.
We continue along a woodland path for a while, arriving near the junction of the Hambleden Valley Road, and continue straight on passing the Church in Fingest.
John and I were telling our friends about the time the graveyard was flooded. Looking back at my photos I found it from 2014. Here it is.
Passing the pub, we turned right into a field and began to climb once more towards the woodlands.
Again some lovely dappled light in the woodlands.
At this point there was a choice of route, but the couple on the bench advised that both met later. We opted for the one which headed downhill. We soon saw Skirmett Village below us, where lunch at the pub was now calling.
Thanks all for your company, and look forward to the next time, which might have Autumnal colours.
